Red velvet cake pops are a delicious treat for kids and kids at heart. This recipe is really simple and can be personalized with all your favorite decorations. The perfect dessert to bring to your next party.
As a kid for every holiday my mom would send me to school with a delicious treat to share with my classmates and teachers. I loved this and when I had my own kids I knew this was something I wanted to pass on to them.
For Valentine’s Day this year I decided to make red velvet cake pops. Red velvet is the perfect flavor for Valentine’s Day.

This recipe can be made with homemade cake and frosting, or as in this recipe boxed caked and store bought frosting. You can use any flavor combination and decorate these however you wish. I chose to use pink sprinkles in keeping with the Valentine’s day theme.
What do I need to make red velvet cake pops?
- Red velvet cake
- Cream cheese frosting
- White candy melts
- Lollipop sticks
Tips for making the best cake pops:
- Allow cake to cool completely before crumbling and adding the frosting to create the dough.
- Place dough in the refrigerator before rolling. This creates a more firm dough and allows you to shape it better.
- Press the dough balls firmly in your had to create a more sturdy cake pop.
- Dipping the lollipop sticks in melted chocolate before placing in the cake pop acts as a yummy glue.
How to make red velvet cake pops?
Bake cake according to directions on box.
Allow cake to cool.
Crumble cake into a large mixing bowl.
Add frosting and mix until well combined and the dough resembles wet sand and will stick together when pressed together.
Place in the refrigerator for 30min to set.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Using a cookie scoop, scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and use your hands to roll into a ball. Set on the cookie sheet. Continue until all the dough is used. You will get about 45 cake pops.
Place candy melts in a tall microwave safe glass and melt until chocolate runs smooth.
Dip about ½ an inch of a lolipop stick in the chocolate and place the sick in the center of the cake pop. Allow the chocolate to cool and harden.
Once chocolate has set you can now dip the cake pop in to the chocolate to coat the entire cake pop. You make need to intermittently remelt the chocolate to keep it smooth. Place the cake pop back on the parchment paper to cool and harden. ENJOY!

- 1 package 12 ounce white chocolate candy melts
- About 45 cake pop sticks
