Pan fried crispy tofu bites tossed in a flavorful coating that looks and tastes like chicken. This mock chicken tofu recipe is quick, easy, and a great meat alternative.
Tofu? Taste like chicken? Really? YES REALLY.
Growing up I was a picky eater and really didn’t care for tofu. One of my good family friends always had this dish at get togethers and I never tried it. I want to serve more healthy options for my husband and kids, so I decided to try their recipe. When I was asked about the recipe I was told they don’t really measure anything, but here’s the ingredient list. I thought here goes nothing. This recipe is what I settled on.

To make mock chicken tofu you will need
- Extra firm tofu
- Shoyu
- Nutritional yeast
- Spike seasoning
What is tofu?
Tofu is made by pressing curds from coagulated soy milk into blocks.
What’s so great about tofu?
- Low calories
- HIgh in protein
- Can be used in sweet or savory dishes
- Can be eaten plain or dressed up with tons of different options
- IT’S VEGAN!
Tofu on it’s own is plain and does not have much of a taste or smell. It is often seasoned or marinated and will absorb flavors well. Toss it in your soup, stir fry, or eat it on its own. The possibilities are endless.
Where can I find tofu?
Tofu can be found in most grocery stores in the refrigerated section.
How to store cooked tofu?
If by some chance you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days.
Can you freeze tofu?
Uncooked tofu can be frozen. It will change the texture of the tofu. For that reason I would not recommend freezing it after making this recipe. It’s best stored in the fridge as mentioned above.
If you’ve been a long time tofu lover or just starting out this recipe is for you!
