I mean who doesn’t love cake pops right, but why not make something to up the ante and make it bigger. Call in CAKESICLES.

But what are cakesicles you might ask?

Well it’s cake pop popsicle. Made with your favorite cake, some frosting, melted chocolate, and a little bit of imagination.

Design your cakesicle for any holiday. This recipe’s theme will be Halloween, but you can totally customize it to your liking.

Ingredients for cakesicles

  • 1 box cake mix baked and cooled. You can use your favorite brand and flavor of cake or use a homemade recipe. If using homemade cake be sure you have enough for one 9×13 pan.
  • ¼ cup frosting. This amount will vary depending on the cake you make. If a cake is on the drier side you may need a little more and if it’s a moist cake you may need less.
  • 36 ounces chocolate candy melts. This is the one I use. Any brand and color will do.

Tools you’ll need

  • Cakesicle mold. These are the ones I used.
  • Popsicle sticks.
  • Candy eyes or the decoration items that you will use.

Tips for the best cakesicles:

  1. Don’t add too much frosting to the cake mix. A mix that is too wet will not hold its shape well.
  2. Melt chocolate until pouring consistency. Heat in short bursts to prevent scorching. You can add Crisco or Paramount crystals to help thin the chocolate if needed.
  3. Be sure your chocolate coating has completely lined the mold. If it is too thin it will crack when removing it from the mold. You can go back and add a second layer of chocolate to ensure it will be thick enough.
  4. Pull silicone mold away from the edges of the cakesicle prior to removing from the mold to help keep the chocolate from cracking.

Can cakesicles be kept in the refrigerator?

Cakesicles can be placed in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. This will prolong shelf life. Be sure to place in an airtight container or wrap with the plastic wrap of your choice prior to placing in the refrigerator.

Can you freeze cakesicles?

Cakesicles can also be frozen. Wrap in plastic wrap or the plastic wrap alternative of your choice, then place an airtight container, and place in the freezer.

How to defrost?

Place cakesicles in the refrigerator overnight to defrost. You can also leave at room temperature for a few hours. Be aware that condensation may form with this method and could affect the look and taste of the cakesicle.
