Dalgona coffee is the newest viral drink trend. Velvety smooth whipped coffee layered over the milk of your choice. Perfect kick start to your day.
Dalgona coffee is a popular Korean street whipped coffee that recently became popular thanks to social media. All you need is a few simple ingredients and you’ve got yourself a yummy treat.
This coffee got its name from dalgona candy popular in Korea. The candy is made with sugar, baking soda, and oil and it was thought that the flavor of this coffee was similar to this.
Dalgona coffee ingredients
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons hot water
- Milk or creamer of your choice
You can swap out granulated sugar for the sugar of your choice (brown sugar, raw sugar, or sugar alternatives).
Don’t have instant coffee? You can also make this brewed coffee. I have found that it does not get as fluffy when you do it this way though.
If you like iced coffee use cold milk and if you’re a hot coffee fan you can use hot milk.

What tools do I need to make dalgona coffee?
All you need is a whisk, a glass bowl, and a glass cup. Okay maybe you don’t need the glass cup, but it looks so much cooler when you can see it in the glass.
Glass bowls work best as often times plastic bowls can have grease residue and this will cause the whip to not get as fluffy. If you have a hand mixer or stand mixer it will make the job much easier.
Tips for awesome dalgona coffee
- Be sure to use a granulated form of sugar.
- If your dalgona coffee is not fluffing up just continue whisking. It often means you just need a little longer.
- Scoop whipped mixture with a spoon or using a piping bag on top of your milk. This helps the mixture to float on the top of the mixture better.
- When ready to drink your coffee be sure to stir the whipped coffee and milk to combine.
What else can I use this on?
This tastes awesome over a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream or how about along side a piece of coffee cake. So many options.
Can this be made in to a cocktail?
You bet. Add a splash of Kahlua, vodka, or any other alcohol of your choice.
How to store whipped coffee?
The whipped mixture will keep in the refrigerator for a day or two. You may need to re-whip the mixture to get it fluffy again.
