Coconut margaritas are a refreshing, tropical twist on a classic cocktail that is perfect for your Aloha Friday pau hana drinks, Cinco de Mayo, or even taco Tuesday.
Oh yes, this is good. Cool and refreshing frozen margaritas blended up for a perfect pick me up cocktail.
Just one sip got you feeling like you’re on a white sandy beach with crystal clear blue waters and cool trade winds. Tropical flavors with all the right notes.
If you love coconut you’ve got to try haupia (a Hawaiian coconut pudding) or candied coconut.
What is coconut margaritas?
Coconut margaritas are a blend between a margarita and a pina colada. Classic tequila, orange liqueur, and lime flavored with a touch of coconut.
Coconut Margarita Ingredients
- Tequila: Silver or gold. It’s really up to you.
- Cream of coconut: Not to be confused with coconut cream. Cream of coconut is a sweetened coconut cream that has the consistency of thick syrup and a game changer in the taste category.
- Lime juice: Be sure to get the real stuff. Fresh squeezed limes can’t be beat.
- Orange liqueur: Pungent, sweet, and a slight spice and a great addition to this cocktail.
- Agave: A sweet syrup from the agave plant and can be found in the condiment aisle near the honey. Can’t find agave? You can use honey or simple syrup as well.
- Ice: After all this is a frozen drink right? Prefer it on the rocks? Sure, you can make it like that as well.
- Toasted coconut flakes: Add just a little touch of nuttiness. I prefer unsweetened, but you can use sweetened if you’d like.
Tools you’ll need
- A good blender. One that will crush and blend ice to a smooth consistency to give you the best frozen cocktail.
- Citrus squeezer. You don’t need a fancy electric one. Handheld works just fine.
- Jigger. I’m no bartender, so I’ll stick to measuring. If you’re a pro, you can skip this tool.
Can you make margaritas on the rocks?
You bet. Pour all your ingredients in a shaker and skip the blender. Shake, shake, shake. Strain over a cup of fresh ice and enjoy!
Can you make frozen coconut margaritas ahead of time?
Frozen margaritas are best served immediately after blending. It is a frozen drink, which means it will begin melting. One option is mix the margarita ingredients and do not blend with the ice until you are ready to serve.
