Sweet, salty, and juicy air fryer teriyaki meatballs are absolutely delicious. Best of all it’s quick and perfect for your next appetizer.
Mahalo to Foodland Hawai’i for sponsoring this post. As always thoughts and opinions are all my own.
Where are all my teriyaki fans at? I mean sweet and salty are just made to be a team. And in this house teriyaki reigns supreme.
Whether you’re making delicious teriyaki meatballs or a teriyaki chicken stir fry you’re in for a treat.
But what is teriyaki you might ask?
Teriyaki is actually a Japanese cooking technique where food is grilled or broiled then glazed with a sauce made of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Today the term teriyaki often refers to the sauce itself.
And since teriyaki is the star of the show, it is important to use a good teriyaki sauce. This recipe will be using Foodland’s Maikai Pineapple Teriyaki Marinade. You can find this at your local Foodland today.
Now these meatballs are made in the air fryer, but not to worry if you don’t have one you can also use a traditional oven. More on that later.
What is an air fryer?
An air fryer is a counter top kitchen appliance that uses convection to heat and cook food. It’s compact in size which allows a shorter cooking time than that of traditional ovens. This is the air fryer that I use.
Ingredients for air fryer teriyaki meatballs
- Ground beef
- Ground pork
- Panko
- Egg
- Green onion
- Mayonnaise
- Garlic
- Salt and pepper
- Maika’i Pineapple Teriyaki Marinade
- Cornstarch
- Water
Now have you ever had dry meatballs? That’s just not the business. My trick to preventing dried meatballs is
- Use a mix of ground beef and ground pork.
- Add a little bit of mayonnaise to the mixture. This helps add some moisture and prevent drying.
Substitutions
- This recipe works great for any type of ground meat you’d like, chicken, turkey, all beef, all pork. Totally up to you.
What to serve with teriyaki meatballs?
The great thing about meatballs is the versatility of the dish. You can eat them alone as an appetizer or serve as a main dish alongside some sticky, white rice or atop noodles. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds for a delish meal.
How to store air fryer meatballs?
Once meatballs have completely cooled, place in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
Can you freeze air fryer teriyaki meatballs?
The great thing about this recipe is it’s great for freezing. You can either store pre cooked or cooked. If storing pre cooked, place meatballs on a baking sheet and freeze just until hardened, then place in a zip top bag and set in the freezer. This will keep for 4-6 months. You can also freeze after the meatballs have been cooked. This will keep for 3-4 months.
How to defrost meatballs?
There are a few different ways to defrost meatballs. You can defrost at room temperature for a few hours prior to reheating or cooking or place in the refrigerator overnight. You can also defrost in the microwave for a few minutes.
